The Power of the Runes — Cards of the Northern Mysteries
The runes are one of the oldest divinatory systems in the world—sacred symbols said to have been discovered by the Norse god Odin as he hung suspended between worlds on the World Tree. These magical signs reveal insight into the hidden structure of the cosmos and the secret chambers of the human psyche, speaking in the language of myth, fate, and ancestral memory.
Artist Thomas Vomel (Voenix) created The Power of the Runes to bring the ancient characters into vivid, modern vision. Each rune is translated into pictorial form, appearing as a 25-card deck—one card for each rune of the Elder Futhark. The imagery draws from Teutonic gods and Northern myths, set within archetypal landscapes that embody the living spirit of each rune.
Every card displays the rune number, its corresponding phonetic letter, and the rune name in the runic alphabet at both top and bottom—bridging the ancient written symbol with its mystical meaning. The artwork captures the essence of each rune, revealing its power through narrative, atmosphere, and mythic resonance.
The instruction booklet offers a brief history of the runes, explains the symbolism and meaning of each card, and teaches several casting systems for reading the runes through this deck—opening pathways for insight, guidance, and ancestral connection.
The Power of the Runes is an invitation into the Northern mysteries, a tool for seekers of fate, and a key to the language of the gods.
